A scene from Slumdog MillionaireThe United Kingdom’s entry to the Zimbabwe International Film Festival (ZIFF), Slumdog Millionaire, will be the opening film for this year’s annual film showcase.  The theme for this, the 12th edition of the festival, is Reel Inclusion.

According to festival coordinator Sharon Rusare, other countries that have entered films include China, Germany, India, South Korea, USA, Japan, South Africa, Indonesia, Italy, Portugal, Turkey and Spain. There will also be a number of films from Zimbabwe.

Alongside the film screenings will run a number of workshops and discussions aimed at assisting local film makers to develop their skills.

Last year, the entry from the USA, The Visitor, featuring Zimbabwe’s own Danai Gurira, was the opening film. Danai came to Zimbabwe to present the film and also spared time to give tips on theatre to upcoming actors.

The festival will run from 28th August to 6th September.

Slumdog Millionaire won eight Oscars this year. It has won 88 other awards to date and has had 33 nominations for other prizes.
